Caroline Supervisors Amongst Highest Paid

by Matthew Rathbun on January 10, 2010

Kathy Dyson from the Free Lance Star wrote an interesting blog post a few days ago in which she pointed out that King George County Supervisors make about a quarter of those supervisors in Caroline County.  Interestingly, Caroline County Supervisors also make more money than Stafford County Supervisors, after Stafford Supervisors voted to cut their salary to help with the county’s budget.

Stafford has a population of 121, 736 compared to 22,121 according to Google.com/publicdata.

According to Dyson, Caroline Supervisors get paid $22,500 a year for fulfill their civic duty.

You can draw your own conclusions from this post, but you couldn’t pay me enough to have to deal with local politics, especially in a rural area.

***Update: 1/14/2010 Portsia Smith at the Free Lance Star reports that the Board of Supervisors agreed to take a $3,000 per supervisor paycut and re-arrange meeting schedules to save $10,000 a year, for a total of $25,000 in savings.***

Seems a bit pricey for what they actually accomplish. Lots of ‘ I hear my constituents…”, etc, etc… although we did get the State Fair and Meadow Event Park is a lovely rural setting.
