For those who have read my previous posts regarding high speed internet in Caroline, you know that Comcast was installing the wiring infrastructure in Lake Land’or months ago. They’ve connected Ladysmith Village (as has Verizon), but didn’t finish the job in Lake Land’or. After cutting through several yards you can see a few places where there are still wire casings above the ground. It’s as if, around November, everyone packed up and left.
I’ve called Comcast and they even setup an installation, only to have the installer to call and say that there wasn’t service and they were trying for the end of the 2007 and didn’t get it done. He didn’t know when the setup date would be.
Six times since November I’ve tried to get information from Corporate. They swear up and down that there is no service in Caroline and that they have no completion date. And yet… there’s Ladysmtih Village with the service.
Yesterday my wife actually met an employee of Comcast and inquired about the installation date. He advised that money wasn’t included in the budget to complete the project and whereas the infrastructure was installed they didn’t provide funding for the actual service connection and activation.
He may not have all the details either, but at least it was some answer. It doesn’t look promising…
Therefore satellite is the option I am finally going with. Half of the services and websties that I use work poorly or not at all with dial-up. It’s also important to the children’s educational process.
I understand that the county is going to be looking into some options, and whereas the telecommunications program is a great step forward, it’s not practical for evening and weekend workers.
