A few days ago I was bemoaning the fact that I needed to develop more friendships. We tend to surround ourselves in the business of life and work. We tend to not put sufficient effort into relationships, because we treat them as by-products of our existence, as opposed to the center point of living. My wife is by far my best friend. She’s always there and is a great sounding board.
However, there are others too. Some who went out their way today to say Happy Birthday, some even sang it during a meeting and others gave presents and sent e-mails. A lot of these folks are work mates who have backed me in my failures and laughed with me during successes. It dawns on me today that as I am getting older, I am finding more and more value in these casual encounters with people. From church, to work and my family I realize that brief encounters today are the spark for good friendships for tomorrow.
I value each friend that I make now, more so that I did years go. I hope to continue to encounter those individuals who’s interaction help to encourage me an add value to my life. I hope that I am doing the same for them, as well.
