Summer Projects

by Jennifer Rathbun on June 14, 2010

Here’s another reminder to use each season wisely.

Summer is the time to catch up on projects around the home that could not be done in the cold and rainy months. It’s a time to have friends or family over to help with bigger projects and then have a cook-out after.

Here’s another article from Realty Times. This one is about Summer Home Maintenance by Carla L. Davis. Here’s one example:

3. Water Heaters. Your tank should be drained once a year. This will help with sediment build-up that is inevitable with water heater use. By draining the water heater you can add years to its lifespan.

These are mostly items that should be done once a year in the summer, but it also reminds me that I need to pull out the power washers to I can repaint my front porch!

And now that the kids are home, maybe you can get their help on a few projects while you’re at work. The more they can learn when they are young, the better prepared they will be when they have their own home to care for. Maybe you two could start the project in the the evenings and give him/her a task or two to complete during the day.

And while we’re talking about maintenance, here’s an article about keeping your garage door working property – 10 Tips for Garage Door Safety by RISMedia. I must admit, I never thought about having to care for my garage door before.

And don’t forget to say thanks to Dad this week for all he does!
